Pantry Program For Homeless Veterans

Since July 2019 Chapter 47 has been involved in supplying food to the veterans villages in the Inland Empire. This all started with a meeting with March Veterans Village - Betty Volk and Chapter 47. Out of that meeting the decision was made that Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 47 would start collecting food donations or monetary donations to keep the pantry filled and then in August Loma Linda veterans village opened up and we were responsible to maintain food for their pantry also Beaumont Liberty Village opened up. Now with volunteer for veterans and Chapter 47 we supply food weekly to these Veterans villages in the Inland Empire there are approximately 450 to 500 homeless veterans and their families living at these villages. At Christmas time we along with Feeding America gave out over 350 frozen turkeys with all the fixings to these veterans villages we also helped with barbecues and gift giving to the children we also supplied some live Christmas trees with all the decorations. This has been a huge undertaking for our chapter and it cost money to do this so we are looking for contributions and donations of food for these pantries and villages.

Veterans Serving Veterans

County of Riverside – Adopt a Road Program

“Veterans Serving Veterans” is an organization of volunteers who have adopted a 3.0 mile stretch of the “Veterans Memorial Highway,” also know as Van Buren Boulevard, between Barton Street and the frontage of Highway 215, located in the Orangecrest area of Riverside. The goal is to honor our military branches by ensuring community pride to this dedicated portion of the roadway.

In cooperation with the Riverside County Transportation Department and the City of Riverside Beautification Program, volunteers will assist in removing litter, trash and discarded items for pick-up once every 60 to 90 days (based upon demand) under the supervision of the volunteer coordinator. Specific dates will be announced requesting a minimum of 2.0 hours, or less, of your time in helping. Youths are encouraged with adult or guardian participation.

You need not be a veteran to volunteer, only love and respect our military heritage, our city and county, by instilling community pride in the management of this dedicated roadway honoring our military.

Fellow Volunteers;

Well another one is in the bag! Sort of a ironic pun, right.

Well we accomplished this community pride project with 3 volunteers on Friday (Ted Yancu, Wayne Vigenault, Glenn Waggoner). Then on Saturday we finished with 8 volunteers (Laurie Waggoner, Glenn Waggoner, Ron Baumgartner, RC Sutton, Dillon Sutton, Dick Phillips and newcomers Patrick Gillis and Heidi Sovich).

Thank you all for your continued support, dedication and community pride!

The Feed the Dawgs Project

The Feed the Dawgs Project (aka The Dawgs Project) was launched in the spring 2008 by two old Nam Vet dog handlers and a DaNang parachute packer. It all started at the PMO/IMEF Military Working Dog Kennels at Camp Pendleton' (now Camp Cann).

The mission of the project is threefold; to provide STEAK barbecues to America's Front Line Defenders, to preserve the heritage that is "K9," and to support the Military Working Dog Community at home and off shore. If you'd like to participate, contribute, or just stay in touch, contact Jon Hemp (Chapter 47 member) at
